Last season London-based designer Benjamin Bertram brought with him a collection entitled Suburban Boys. The collection lacked colour and focussed on a wasting youth, a generation at a loss. This season Benjamin focussed on a youth on the run.

Inspired by the original novel, Logan’s Run, Benjamin takes inspiration from a storyline based around limited time. A society encased in the pursuit of pleasure without the constraints of labour. Yet this hedonism comes at a price, life ends at 30. Those attempting to out run the system are at the core of Benjamin’s latest work.

Much akin to last season the element of  despair is apparent. Benjamin’s boy was, last year, misguided and foraging for guidance. This season we see his focus turned to escapism as he envisions a soul on the run.

Colour ways are minimal again this season with Benjamin striking a fine tune with a monochromatic colour palette, his stark lifestyle shots only emphasise the dramatics of the collection. Wrap around sleeveless jackets in stiffened cottons contrast against black roll necks whilst reverse cut out jackets paired with origami shorts are shown throughout.

The art of folding is mastered this season as Benjamin perfectly depicts fine pleats and lines within his collection. Folded bibs decorate blindly all white ensembles whilst waistline pleated trousers are cropped at the ankle in polyester sateen.

A futuristic collection loaning inspiration from the far conceptual future of Logan’s Run, Benjamin has adapted and grown on the similarities shown last season, yet successfully created a collection that strikingly different to his previous.
